In September Jimele Food Provedore will receive our first shipment of Spanish Tortas from Ines Rosales.
In 1910, a woman named Ines Rosales began making Olive Oil Tortas (tortas de aceite) by hand and selling them at the train station in Seville, Spain. Soon, she could not keep up with the demand and she decided to employ women from the local village she came from to assist her in producing these delicate and crisp treats. She used local ingredients, including extra virgin olive oil and unbleached wheat flour. In a short period of time, this Andalusian specialty became known and enjoyed throughout Spain.
Today, the tradition continues. Ines Rosales Tortas are still made by hand with the same recipe created over one hundred years ago. Women from the local village are still employed to hand-shape the tortas that are made in small batches.
Simple, yet sophisticated the Ines Rosales Sweet Olive Oil Tortas are all-natural products, made with extra virgin olive oil and the finest ingredients. These delicious and delicate pastries are baked with anise seeds, making this treat an ideal complement to cheese as well as your tea or coffee.
The All-natural Seville Orange Sweet Olive Oil Tortas are made with crystallized Seville oranges and sprinkled with cane sugar. They make the perfect dessert complement. Lighter than most crackers, the Sesame & Sea Salt Savory Olive Oil Tortas are baked with sesame seeds and topped with sea salt.
We cant wait.
